In 2016, Convergence took its first step as a producer of bespoke concerts. Pieces of a Man: The Gil Scott-Heron Project at the Roundhouse, was a celebration of the life and legacy of the legendary American soul and jazz poet, musician, and author. A day of talks, workshops and performances inspired by the works of Gil Scott-Heron, culminated in an full-length concert. The show included performances of much-loved tracks by guest vocalists including Anna Calvi, Kwabs, Kate Tempest, Jamie Woon, Nadine Shah, Loyle Carner, Reginald D Hunter and more, supported by a house band playing under the musical direction of The Invisible's Dave Okumu. The day preceding the concert included a programme of talks, screenings and performances inspired by themes in Gil's music. Watch the highlights video here and look out for UK tour dates in the near future.
Convergence 2016 also included the UK premiere of Junun ft. Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood & the Rajasthan Express at the Barbican, plus headline performances across London from Dan Deacon, Lamb, of Montreal, !!! chk chk chk, Factory Floor, The Gaslamp Killer, James Lavelle, Nurse With Wound, Anna von Hausswolff, Colin Stetson, Omar Souleyman, The Correspondents and The Herbaliser’s Night of Future-Funk featuring Rodney P.
