Influential German composer and multi-instrumentalist Manuel Göttsching (Ash Ra Tempel, later Ashra, and then solo as Manuel Göttsching) brings two of his projects to the Barbican in an exciting double-programme.
One segment of the evening's concert sees The Ash Ra Tempel Experience, featuring Ariel Pink (vocals, bass), Shags Chamberlain (keys, synthesizer), Oren Ambarchi (drums) and Manuel Göttsching (guitar), performing original titles from the Ash Ra Tempel albums Schwingungen and Seven Up (both from 1972).
In the other segement, Manuel Göttsching will perform one of his most celebrated albums, E2-E4, in its entirety in a rare solo performance. Recorded in 1981 in one take, the music features one minimalistic hour-long progressive track with improvised keyboards and guitar over synthesizer patterns and metallic percussion. The seminal album gained a great deal of attention at the end of the 80s in the house, techno and dance-floor scenes and was remixed and sampled by dozens of bands and DJs (most notably by Italian group Sueño Latino), and remains as influential today, 35 years later.
